What is Studio Art? Theaster's influence.

Before I attended first Art's class in Webster University Studio Art was a very defined topic for me which meant, working in studio with different materials, exhibitions and late-night parties to expose works to friends and people of interest.
I took an introductory course to Studio Art in Webster and I expected up to discuss some art history and work with different materials like clay, wood, paints, etc. I was partially right. In this class we are going to discuss history and work with many different material but also we are going to talk art and find ways how to apply it in real life.

Theaster Gates is a great example of a modern artist who transform almost everything that comes to his hands into art. Among the materials he used to craft his works there are cars, all sorts of construction materials, old furniture, and of course more traditional materials like canvas, paints, and textile. His attitude to art is to combine emotional component, history and material to create pieces that can touch peoples feelings and memories.
